Guess Who I am Betting On This Game Day?
Our Game Day capsule is here! This is my favorite time of the year. The weather is cooling down, people are heading back to school, and you can feel the excitement in the air. Also, the nerd in me loves all the books on our kitchen counter. Football is coming our way which means we all get to stand together in the stands side by side, laughing, cheering and joining together to root for a common goal …hopefully in your favorite Erica Skirt and Cecilia or Cece Top. When you think about it, life is a lot like a football game. We are all standing and living side by side together. It’s one big, wonderful project we are all a part of with a common goal to make society and the world better. We are in it to win it together and this means believing we can make it better each day. Society is our team. This is the perfect time of year to celebrate this idea. You can feel the excitement and rebirth of hopes and dreams fall brings. It’s the start of something new. We can reinvent and we can reset our mind from believing things are truly good rather than bad. That alone is a touchdown! The winds are changing, calling you to change whatever it is you want to change. Football season and sports in general are a metaphor for life.
Duke women’s basketball coach, Kara Lawson, had a message for her team recently. It was an incredible message about working towards your goals and understanding the value in knowing how to handle hard things in life. It was about the importance of striving towards the best version of yourself no matter what age you are. You get there by defying the odds and believing in getting up when you get knocked down.
“We all wait in life for things to get easier…It will never get easier. What happens is you handle hard better. That’s what happens. Most people think that it’s going to get easier. Life is going to get easier. Basketball is going to get easier. School is going to get easier. It never gets easier. What happens is you become someone who handles hard stuff better. And if you think life when you leave college is going to all of a sudden get easier because you graduated and you got a Duke degree, it’s not going to get easier. It’s going to get harder. So make yourself a person that handles hard well.”
To me the way you handle hard well is by understanding each season you have the choice to start again. Most of all you have to be optimistic in the face of adversity. This is the magic ingredient. Sports teach you how to bounce back, how to handle criticism, and how to fight back and believe when you are exhausted. So when you are on those sidelines cheering on your team, remember it’s your game day too and you can win it all. I would bet on you over and over!
Quote of the week: “Nobody who ever gave their best regretted it!”
Our Game Day Capsule was released this week and we are so excited about it. I can’t wait to wear the Victory Red Piper Top and Erica skirt to SMU games this year. I have also been living in the Tina Top and we just released a brand new Stadium Green one.
We are releasing the next part of our Fall collection on September 6th, it’s called Camp Chic! Think fireside chats with your friends, s’mores, and so much more. This is one of my favorite collections and I can’t wait for you to see it!
Don’t forget to join us for my birthday live tonight, August 24th, at 5 PM CST! You can tune in on Instagram or Tik tok. There will be lots of trivia for fun giveaways and I will be doing a Q&A! I can’t wait to see you there!
